I am looking for a position as a technology integrator, MYP design teacher or IT skills teacher and can offer my strengths in these areas. I have over seven years of international teaching experience, ranging from early years to middle school, including beginner EAL students and mixed-age classes. I am familiar with a wide range of hardware and software including Apple and Windows systems, iPads, Android mobile devices and interactive whiteboards. As a technology leader I feel that being a lifelong learner is fundamental to my practice; I regularly utilise recommendations from my Personal Learning Network as teaching tools and for personal PD and I have taken every opportunity to continue my praxis through observations, courses, my personal learning network and currently, further study through an MA in ICT and Education.
My experience as the head of technology and technology integrator, as well as a previous primary homeroom experience, have given me familiarity with the different facets of technology in schools. I have been responsible for the school-wide development of ICT including advising the Director, budgeting, supporting others’ integration of technology through team teaching, curriculum writing and alignment, creating support materials and systems and serving as a technology role model. I regularly share good practice with colleagues and run staff training including leading a professional learning community focusing on Technology and the ICT committee. I find patience is of utmost importance when assisting colleagues to acquire new skills and it is imperative to be approachable and realistic when mentoring others.
In my current role as an MYP Design teacher, I have developed the programme, ensuring breadth and progression over the five years and alignment with the IB Next Chapter, prepared for accreditation and evaluation including preparing student work samples for monitoring and planned, taught and assessed mixed-age classes including students new to MYP.
As stressed by my TESMC training, all teachers are language teachers; technology, particularly web 2.0 tools, affords teachers numerous ways to aid EAL pupils, support SEN pupils and stretch Gifted and Talented students. Furthermore, in my classes, I use technology to provide multicultural perspectives and consider global issues, which are particularly salient in international settings.
Additionally, I would be more than happy to apply any of my interests through extra-curricular activities or school-wide events. As a qualified swimming teacher and avid reader, I would love to run a swimming club or a reading club. I would also be interested in any kind of ICT-based club, perhaps helping pupils to contribute to the school website through graphics, multimedia or podcasts, making films, apps or working on a Yearbook. I am currently the Community and Service co-ordinator and this entails responsibility for the Community project and directing the Service program across the Middle School. I have also aided school fundraising and promotional activities as well as designed and created my current school’s website, which has been well received throughout the community.
Technology is a subject I am passionate about; I would bring enthusiasm, dedication and high expectations of my pupils and myself to my new post. I am eager to apply and build upon my successful international positions, working as part of the staff team, developing my school’s aims, values and vision.
